(whatever hypersonic missiles there are currently, they are actually quite bad at hitting moving targets, some countries have supersonic anti-ship missiles, none ballistic, nato actually mostly relies on *subsonic* stuff, defense over-saturation and electronic warfare, that may not be the most up to date idea, but it probably works)

(now also arguably the countries most likely to face massive chinese navy are looking for alternatives, so making faster missiles *may* be a sensible thing to do)
