Dude failed to pick up on that and she was complaining about this. There was no negging anywhere in this convo.

And you failed to pick up on the absolute obvious implication, that it was not as big of a compliment, as it would seem on surface, since it has a subtle implications, which are negative and should undermine the person's confidence.
