Why is KSP2 so ugly though? (I cannot pin-point it...)

Incredibly.
Something about the lighting and materials seems off, and the gigantic UI doesn't help either.

also yeah it really does look like it's made out of default unity assets with default lighting and effects, very amateurish stuff

They took the first game
Removed 3/4 of the features
Made it ugly
It's running like shit

And on release, I could watch any lifestream, since I knew they will hit a gamebreaking bug in minutes.

All, while promising extreme optimalization, multiplayer and other galaxies. Obviously, none of none of these were delivered.
