You can also see it, prior to christianity spreading, in europe with fire burials being much more common in rome, greece, scandinavia and the empire of rus. After conversion almost all burnings stop, execpt for heretics and so on
the main reason for us Christians not cremating people for most of our history is that it was considered disrespectful to the body, considered to be a symbol deceleration of the denial of the Resurrection, and also the fact that the heathens did it made it look bad.
at the time of the resurrection we Christians shall obtain new bodies, and shall live with God in the New Heavens and New Earth forever. the old body will decay, fire funerals were historically considered disrespectful
