Well, I guess it's still better then "have you seen the game last night?"

@LukeAlmighty @ceo_of_monoeye_dating I legitimately disagree. Sportsball might be kinda dumb but at least it's real in some sense. It's not pure fiction.

@NEETzsche @ceo_of_monoeye_dating
So, when we compare an artistic expression with characters, point and moral dilemas... And you compare it to 24 guys kicking a ball for an hour.

You seriously believe, that it's more healthy to talk about the ball kicking?

@LukeAlmighty @ceo_of_monoeye_dating When you're comparing some dumb throwaway media slop to athletic events? Yeah. There's a value to the ritual competition. You want to encourage people to take seriously games or skill.

If we're talking about more classical literature etc then I think that's a different story

No, I am talking about all media from Cyberpunk Edgerunners all the way down to She-hulk.

Because literally all of it is an experience, that can be analyzed, or experienced.

On the other hand, Us vs Uk: 8:3 is hardly a datapoint. It was just a few guys playing their favorite sport, while getting payed from the earnings of retarded drunks who don't understand how gambling works.

@LukeAlmighty @ceo_of_monoeye_dating I think you're really underestimating how much goes into professional sports, and this is coming from a guy who just isn't that into these sports personally in the first place. Every single one of them is a rabbit hole and none of them can be mastered, as spectator or player, in an afternoon. If you think I'm full of it, consider what it would take to become good enough to be a professional at any of these common sports or become good enough at predicting outcomes in those games to make a living off of sports betting. Both tasks are non-trivial.

Again, I'm not a huge fan of sportsball, but I don't have this delusion that it's all just a bunch of bullshit, that it's contentless and idiotic.

@NEETzsche @ceo_of_monoeye_dating
No, I absolutely DO understand, that the best players of the best have dedicated their entire life to the game.

That is the players. But the entire aspect of dedication is meaningless once you do look at the fans. They are literally looking at who kicked the ball better. That is meaningless.

I do include an exception for technical sports like F1 or even acrobatics, where you can apreciate some individual acts, but when it comes to football, it's all just "this guy kicks good".

@LukeAlmighty @ceo_of_monoeye_dating I grew up in New York, which was full of mobbed up Italians and Jews all trying to predict sportsball outcomes, and some were way better at it than others. Usually the ones who were best at it were bookies, who needed to set the odds, and who intended to profit off of some retarded hype about a certain player/team. Certain people acted like it was just dumb luck but it really wasn't.

Me personally, I spent most of my youth hanging out in local game stores (like D&D and Magic), comic book stores, and going to various kinds of concerts. I regret not ever learning an instrument or how to otherwise make music
