No tax on overtime?
That is insane. How about less tax on normal work hours, and 80% tax on overtime?

@LukeAlmighty

Hell no.

Encouraging more people to want to work overtime is the whole point.

Overtime is good. It increases the production of society. Putting a huge tax on overtime hurts overall production.

Start thinking of taxes as incentives and disincentives, and you'll understand why Trump's 1'st term tax cuts led to record employment in every demographic and real wage growth for the first time in my lifetime.

Trump is a brilliant economic manager, and this is a great example why.

@LukeAlmighty @ILoveAmericaNews No tax on overtime can put you in a lower tax bracket and means you have to pay the government less than you would, if you accrue a lot of overtime hours.

Wait... you have a tax steps in the US?
That's retarded. We get the different tax rates only on the money in that bracket.

But the more important is, that I see overtime as a thing, that should be disincentived as much as possible. Your work should not be your life.

@BlinkRape @ILoveAmericaNews
Your boss should feel the pain of ruining your social life. I don't think that is a hot take.

@LukeAlmighty @ILoveAmericaNews

We have tax brackets in the USA. You are taxed by the total amount of income you earn for the year. In some cases there can be extra taxes on top of that (capital gains, etc).

If someone wants to work 80 hours a week, that's entirely up to them. I wouldn't, but I'm not gonna stop them.

I've only ever received overtime rates for volunteering to work on holidays that were eligible, and I worked for a multinational megacorp. They did everything possible to prevent having to pay overtime.

These changes will benefit small to medium sized company employees more than anything else. The big corporations people view as slave drivers don't want to have to pay overtime to a bunch of employees, especially when they can just abuse the salaried management positions instead.
@LukeAlmighty @ILoveAmericaNews If I were you I'd be more worried about employers like Walmart that have a culture of brow beating people into working off the clock and stealing their wages via other such schemes, than worrying about who is and isn't working overtime.

@BlinkRape @ILoveAmericaNews
Sure, a crime is worse then just being an asshole I guess, but both are the same problem for the employee.

@LukeAlmighty @ILoveAmericaNews

This is a self inflicted problem. You can't put a gun to anyones head and force them to work overtime. If people are willing to put up with it using some income based justification that's a societal issue, not an individual or company issue.
