>Sargon now admits that the Star Wars Prequels were actually good

@ChristiJunior
People are seriously not used to hearing actual stories worth telling these days. They got so used to the heroes jurney, that they don't even understand there can be anything else.

Meanwhile, prequels are telling story of fall of civilization and fall of a great man. Literally incompatible with the simple mind the originals were made to fit.

@LukeAlmighty The one major story issue in the prequels is Anakin's massacre of the Younglings; take that away, and his turn to the Dark Side is very gradual and believable, with the decisive moment being a split-second decision made out of desperation that sealed his fate. After that, Anakin's slaughter of the Separatist leaders is a much more plausible escalation than him murdering children.

....of course, most Prequel haters don't even focus on that actually legitimate bit of criticism, instead parroting stupid talking points about Muh Trade Dispute and whining about Jar Jar and midichlorians, while ignoring how Prequel Palpatine is an absolutely GOATed villain.

@ChristiJunior
That's because they cannoot possibly understand prequel Palpatine. It requires to look at a politician and understand leveraging real issues you don't actually care about, and support in the background...

Now, think of SFO... And his understanding of the government.

@LukeAlmighty It's still funny how someone like Alex Jones INSTANTLY "got" the Prequel Trilogy, and was amazed that a bunch of adult film critics seemingly did not understanding basic political realities.
@ChristiJunior As a hardcore political junkie in all seriousness I always considered Palpatine's machinations to be the best thought out aspect of the prequels. The overall story arc that Anakin didn't stand a chance against such a machiavellian mindfucker was also solid. It was the last minute decision to have him turn because of a contrived prophecy of Padme's death that was tacked on. In Attack of the Clones in the famous meme scene it's clear he's already a fascist and would side with Palpatine against the jedi killjoys who wouldn't even let him get laid.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty Ikr? Even in gradeschool (when this came out) I was able to figure out Palps was playing everyone in the long game. It wasn't even that subtle.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty The whole Jedi Temple part of the story needed a rework, not just the Younglings to be honest.

It could have really shown off his descent without having him go full dark side from the get go if they had leant into Anakin basically being manipulated into a path that was always going to end in violence. They needed a bit more than just him marching into the temple and a little camera footage for Obi Wan and Yoda to find.

Imagine if he had gone there with the view to simply arrest the Jedi at the temple only for a fight to break out between the Jedi and the Clone Troopers with him in the middle. The Jedi there think Anakin is an enemy and he is forced to defend himself, and ends up in the middle of a massacre, very angry, not just with himself but with the Jedi because they just wouldn't listen to him.

The other big problem as I saw it was Obi Wan at the end with Anakin and leaving him to rot. It made no sense that he would just leave him there without either at least trying to save him or having the good decency to coup de grace the lad. Instead he comes off as a complete arsehole. Would have been better if they had had him try to save him and Anakin falls off the ledge or something so Obi Wan thinks he is dead.
@CrazedWeevil @ChristiJunior The Force has a strong influence over the weak minded.

I wonder if Lucas intended that Anakin be like the stormtroopers Obi-Wan mindfucks in Star Wars? Once he surrenders to Palpatine he gives up his will and does as he's told without a thought. He is the beta in that relationship.
@judgedread @CrazedWeevil I was gonna say, maybe Anakin's state of mind would make him susceptible to Sith mind control in a way that no Jedi would normally be?

Then again, I don't remember the Episode III novel ever alluding to this.
@ChristiJunior On a dime he goes from ratting Palpatine out to Mace Windu to cutting off Windu's hand then rampaging through the Jedi Temple killing everything in his path. Sidious' Sith mind power is a parsimonious explanation.
@judgedread The Windu incident was understandable, he saw Windu blatantly violating the same rules he always so self-righteously preached, and him cutting off Windu's hand was a split-second decision reflecting his gut-level sympathies and desires. And of course, Anakin never got along with Windu to begin with.

The Youngling massacre however REQUIRES something like Sith mind tricks to be remotely plausible.
@ChristiJunior @judgedread Could just be bad writing, or suffering from needing to have been a longer film, so the transition from good to evil couldn't have been properly presented in a slower and more graceful way.
@TrevorGoodchild @ChristiJunior @judgedread @CrazedWeevil >Lucas showed us exactly how his generation sees the young men coming up behind them. They do not see heirs. They see rivals. Talent is not something to cultivate. It is a threat to contain. And the more gifted the young man, the more dangerous he looks to the elders of his own tribe, the men who were meant to be his stewards, his surrogate fathers, his guides.

This is accurate, and also describes the worst thing I have seen out of women - when they treat their daughters like competition.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty generation manipulator. Palps played them all like a pro. Mocked the Jedi openly, they didn't even notice.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty Jar Jar is objectively awful though as he is written. Now obviously he is the key to all of it because he is obviously Darth Plagueis, but he could have been written as not annoying, but still unassuming.
@LukeAlmighty @ChristiJunior personal I like Anakin, good character with some patchy dialogue, but I blame Lucas for that. Even Harrison Ford criticized him for questionable dialogue.

Also, Haden Christianson, got so much undeserved hate, bro was a good actor. He did a good job imo. Bro even to this day still has the weapon training. It's hilarious if you watch the some of the behind the scenes stuff of the trash Asoka and obi wan shows, dude is lighting fast and you can see he has to slow down for the other actors, that clearly had no sword training or coaching.

He goes to cons all the time and loves the fans. Bro is literally the Jason David frank of Star wars.
@Azur_Fenix @LukeAlmighty I was of the impression that after Shattered Glass came out, movie fans generally acknowledged that Hayden Christensen was actually a good actor all along.
@ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty it's ashame he didn't get more work after the prequels. He kinda deserved to have been one of the consistent actors you saw. One of the few actors I still respect. He has kept his politics and opinions to himself, unlike most modern actors.
@Azur_Fenix @ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty I suspect Adam Driver will undergo a similar arc, TBH.
That being said, I maintain it's all the expanded universe stuff which elevates the Prequels in my eyes. Simply because a lot, and I mean a lot, of various tales from Darth Bane to KOTOR would not exist without the Prequels.
@DarkGura @ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty he kinda did, tho it's from the relos, they were literally trying to break him and his wife up so they could ship him with Daisy riddley.

Also I doubt he will be hated like christren was. Most of drivers fans are women. Like an assload are.
@DarkGura @ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty I'm still mad they tossed out the EU. The vog war would have been a licence to preng money. Hell sith era stuff would have been cool. They could have followed a previous chosen one like Xar Kun. They are so many options. Choose none of it. Wasted.
@Azur_Fenix @ChristiJunior @LukeAlmighty All because they didn't want to put in the legwork to pay out less than 2% of royalties to various authors.
