Right, how do we complain to Google about their removal of the Spinster app? I think this one's going to be tricky, they already have a reputation for poor user service and batting you from one automated reply to another. ð¥
Meanwhile, is the APK hosted anywhere?
It's possible to install an app (*if* you know it's safe) outside Google Play if you get the APK and allow unknown apps in settings. Important to turn that setting off again after you've installed the app you want.
@slightlyatsea The @Gab app store exists, and they would surely host the Spinster APK: https://apps.gab.com/
But I want the ability for apps to auto-update, so I'd like to work more on this solution. Originally they planned to fork F-Droid to make their own app store, which I think was a great idea, but then they chose not to. I want to go back to that vision of having a real independent app store.

Technically no one would need to fork F-droid, someone would just need to make a custom repository for the F-droid app, and teach users how to add it. That last part would really be the difficult part.
