I know of a particular instance that implemented the quote post function, and it broke compatibility with the fediverse and all apps. And considering the only reason that the owner of the site federated in the first place was so that people could use the fedi apps, because Google Play banned their own app... well I'm sure you can tell how idiotic I found that particular move.
