While greed had it's part to play, I'm not even sure if it's the only problem. I think a issue is, that they had the resources to grow, they wanted to grow, and they literally had nothing else new to grow to after the "streaming other studios' content" phase was successful. The only thing left for them to do was to basically revert back, and do what Hollywood has been doing for 100 years.
From one of the most innovative companies, it basically went back in time with their strategy.
