Never took me that long. I used to have a 10gb drive with Win98, and it would take only a couple of hours. Maybe 3-4 at most.

@alyx yeah it got better as drives improved, but my childhood memories are of windows 95, and being kept from playing my precious doom for WAY TOO LONG.

must have been mildly traumatic if a routine defrag today causes this reaction lol

I never played Doom back in the old days. Hard to say for sure which was the first game I played on my computer. One of the firsts was Starcraft.
But in general, the first PC game I played might have been Wolfenstein 3D. My memories on the order of things are a bit fuzzy.

@alyx wolf3d was definitely my first pc gaming memory that stuck, i was like 7 or 8 and it had just come out

i've even got my floppies and manual for it and spear of destiny stashed away today

it also reflects my first words learned in German because some of the mobs' phrases were translated in the manual. for years i thought i knew how to say scheiße, until i learned that isn't a B.
