And this is why I refuse to interact with fellow Romanians online. Most are beyond stupid. It's not some great victory, where people refuse because they're informed about some imagined danger. If anything, Romanians have been the fastest adopters of the Covid vaccine.
What happened is that people in urban areas all rushed to get it ASAP. We had the biggest vaccination rates in Europe. But then, slowly but surely, the decently educated, urban population, was finished. All was left was rural population, that is so far disconnected from reality sometimes, that they don't even know the difference between a vaccine and aspirin. So of course they didn't vaccinate when in their isolation they probably didn't even notice there was a disease going around. And if they're not sick, why take medicine (is what they think).
And the biggest nail in the stupidity coffin is that while the official population is supposed to be somewhere around 20 million, it is widely speculated that several million Romanians no longer actually live & work here. They're scattered everywhere in the world. Leaving any attempt to do a statistic on what % of people did or didn't do something completely meaningless, because you're trying to compare to an non-existent inflated population.
Here's the truth. At best we can assume 15-16 million Romanians living here. We have somewhere slightly over 5 million people vaccinated, with no children being vaccinated yet. So we can probably exclude another 2-3 million people from the total population that weren't eligible for the jab. Let's say we're left with 13 million people who could actually get it. With a population split of 56% urban, 44% rural, you can do the rest of the math yourself. You'll have about 7 million urban people, 6 million rural, and 5 million vaccinated people who are mostly from urban areas.
