Pretty much. Also a waste of space. Linux has a good solution in zram as an alternative to traditional swap. And if the worst case scenario ever happens, I've got systemd-swap to temporarily make small 512mb swap files if 16gb of ram really gets completely filled.
@alyx because they use up the life of the drive by writing too much?
