@alyx too much temperature i think. the liquid evaporated off and i'm going to have to scrub burnt tomato off the metal now.

I don't know how much tomato sauce you were trying to do, but leaving the stove on high is not the best idea. And no matter what setting you leave it on, it doesn't change the fact that you do need to stir it every couple of minutes at least.

@alyx i did turn it down. the recipe said it had to simmer for ~3 hours.

The recipe sounds fine. It sounds like it's for a large quantity. You were the dumb one for not stirring. It's less important at the beginning, but it's crucial towards the end.

The recipe was shit if it didn't say how dark to cook town the tomatoes to.

You are shit for not being super attentive to tomatoes cooking in a pot and allowing them to turn to sugar/carbon on the edges. That was way too hot, you probably were supposed to keep it on one of the intermediate settings that doesn't keep the temp on all the time.
