The running gag is that our economic views will just be whatever the next big person to challenge the funny hat people prefers. When Ross Perot was big, protectionism was what people were most into. When Ron Paul was the popular outsider, people were more pro market. Trump showed up, and then people liked protectionism and maybe some manufacturing subsudies.
Ultimately, we just want less rapefugees and no more wars for Israel. Debating our ideal tax system right now is rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.
