Depends how much more transmissible and how much milder it is. Depending on the proportion between the two, it could still leave more victims in it's wake than previous variants.
Ideally it's ok if it's more transmissible IF it's significantly less deadly/serious. But if it's only slightly less deadly but far more transmissible, at the end of the day, you're not getting a better deal.
