The movies were ok. Maybe not the most amazing fantasy movies out there, but they were good enough to be legitimately enjoyable.
The books though... they're bad. Especially in the beginning. The first few books read like she's never written anything in her life. She gets better at writing towards the end, but their respective movies are still probably better.

Honestly, when I heard about how the game "works", I just thought "why would anyone else on the team even bother playing?!".
The best description I ever heard of how stupid it is was: "It's like a football match, but the referees painted a drugged up field mouse yellow and let it loose on the pitch. All the players ignore it except one specialized Mouse Catcher, and if they happen to catch the fucker the game just stops and that team wins automatically".
