Only because you tell them they're lab grown. Tell them instead they sat in the ground for millions of years, only to be discovered in some remote area in Africa, and look how they'll swoon.

It's not the diamond that solicits emotions, it's the story you attach to the diamond.

@alyx @devurandom Yeah but *this* diamond was grown in a lab at the bottom of a mine shaft 2300 meters underground by a team of hand-picked albino scientists in designer lab coats while a high-fidelity performance of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata was used to guide the diamond-forming molecules into a masterpiece of artisanal crystalline growth. It has a standard romantic index of 59.2, comparable with the very best mining industry diamonds.
