Ubisoft is still doing just fine by itself. Activision Blizzard is about to implode. It makes sense to sell Activision and have Microsoft deal with the image problems surrounding sexual harassment.
And Microsoft probably managed to negotiate a lower price because of the worsening public image Activision has.

@alyx ubisoft has declining revenues on core games and as a result recently switched to a mobile game/free-to-play focus. their market cap matches that of a bethesda-sized acquisition, which is what m$ was rumored to be looking for, and yves will appreciate being left alone

activision's shares outstanding come in at ~783m so for a $68.3B deal it would come out to ~$87 per share. the scandal without a doubt "helped" get the share price to a better target (they were sitting at ~$90 per share pre-investigation) and with how unpopular the board is shareholders probably will approve that
