Get Vanilla Music from F-Droid (or Google Play).
As for VLC, it's not even the best video player, even on desktop. I dread to think how bloated it could be on mobile.

Considering the default music kind of sucks (/e/os ....they better kept the Lineage player, I actually liked that one)
