I don't think the main problem of Twilight was the premise (although sparkling vampires will always be a big problem). It was just how badly it was executed.
@alyx @coolboymew Twilight wasn't even the first sparkly vampire. There's actually some folklore somewhere that has them too. They showed up in one of www.emilymarthasorensen.com 's stories. I forgot their name, but that story also had baobhan siths in it, so you may be able to find them by starting there.

Comparison: SAO has a great premise, but it was executed so bad, that it's become a meme.
