Why are people surprised? Pretty much their entire case against Harvey Weinsten was that he had power and influence. It's typical marxian thinking: if you have money and power in a capitalist system, you must be evil.

@alyx @dave I'm pretty sure Weinstein was a disgusting piece of shit rapist

>I'm pretty sure...
I'm not sure at all. All the allegations I've heard were variations on: "he told me to suck his dick, and he'd give me a role".
I'm sorry, but that just isn't rape. That's basically voluntary prostitution. And considering the same leftists that started up MeToo are the ones that usually advocate for legalization of prostitution, I just don't see a reason to vilify or care even one bit about Harvey Weinstein.

No, it was rape. He also threatened to have women blacklisted if they didn’t sleep with him. That is rape.

@dave @alyx That's not rape, It's extorsion, blackmailing, and a bunch of other things, but rape is when you force yourself onto someone physically afaik

Personally I think prostitution is the closest fit to what was happening there. Women exchanged sex for the service of being in Hollywood. They had sex in the beginning to get into Hollywood and they had to continue delivering sex "payments" to continue receiving the Hollywood service.
