Well my landlord came by with the Orkin man and I asked her about the pet deposit.
(Cornbread was locked in my room and luckily kept quiet)
She said that before I get the animal I need to pay the deposit and provide records that it's up to date on all of its shots. Also there are weight limits. I said it's a cat so weight limits shouldn't be an issue. Then she said, "Oh then it needs to be declawed or defanged or whatever it is you do to cats. I don't really know what all is in the policy. I'll get you a copy of the policy."
That has me worried. I hope she's just mistaken about that but if cats are required to be declawed then I'm definitely going to challenge that. Shouldn't be hard to get a note from the doctor that says that's actually animal abuse. Especially since even the humane society and ASPCA say so as well.

Gonna have to call the vet to get a quote for how much all of this will cost.
Still, I can't imagine the policy requires cats to be declawed. That'd just be bonkers.

I remember learning about declawing several years ago, and it made me feel sick and actually physically cringe.
If you really can't be bothered to trim your cat's claws, a decent alternative are claw caps. But even those shouldn't be needed. Just learn to trim its claws by yourself, and have adequate scratch posts to satisfy its instinctual need to sharpen it's claws on something.
