98 degrees is gonna be the air temperature. The ground temperature, especially for the dark asphalt of a tarmac, will be much higher. I've seen it happen in my own town, when the air temperature go over 100 Fahrenheit, the asphalt in the roads that are constantly exposed to the sun do begin to soften/melt. And something tells me a UK runway will in fact be darker than my dusty town roads, so they'll absorb even more heat.

Meh. So far the temps I hear UK complaining about are a normal, every year deal, where I live.
@wildgoose @Terry
I'm not denying anything. I'm just not impressed by their complains, because I know so far they're not getting anything worse than what I get every summer, including hot nights, including no rain, etc.
