@FrailLeaf @nukie @p @meeper I think it has a linux kernel but runs a wine like system on top of it.

if i remember correctly they share a lot of code with wine
@astatine @FrailLeaf @meeper @nukie React? No, they don't use the Linux kernel. I don't think they share much code with Wine but I could be wrong about that. Wine translates API calls, it's a compatibility shim; ReactOS just implements the calls directly.

You can just look at their code: https://github.com/reactos/reactos
@p @astatine @FrailLeaf @meeper @nukie they do cross polinate with wine but reactos is a full on windows kernel yeah

Do you know if the Windows XP source code leak helped their development at all?

@alyx @p @astatine @nukie @meeper @FrailLeaf stuff like that usually is a nightmare because they have to insist very heavily that the reverse engineering is clean.
@alyx @astatine @icedquinn @nukie @meeper @FrailLeaf Legally, it can't have; they'd be able to C&D the project out of existence. Unofficially, I don't know; who wouldn't at least look?
