@graf @Aether Wasn't it kinda the other way around? You needed the "turbo" function to downclock the CPU for backwards compatibility reasons?

I never had contact with one of these. I'm a millennial that had a computer kinda late. So you're welcomed to correct me. It's just what I understood from videos explaining old PCs. My understanding was that at the time a new CPU came out that had higher clock speed, but old software/games was locked to the old CPU clock speed. So the Turbo button downclocked the newer CPU to old clock speeds for that software.

@alyx @Aether you are right in the form and function, wasn't trying to dismiss you. the meme was any kid who had a desktop who had one of these would literally just press the button with zero regard
