@shitgrifter "You believe X, so do Y to be consistent" is completely valid irregardless of what the libtard thinks

@applejack this is incredibly reductive, for example, I don't strictly believe in X, there are other options other than Y, and following X strictly to the conclusion of Y may violate another principle, Z, or may inadvertently lead to outcomes that run counter to X. It's simply dumb to look at it as a strictly black and white scenario where only X and Y exist with no other context or externalities.

@shitgrifter The meme doesn't mention externalities or context, it implies the argument is wrong because the libtard doesn't believe it himself

@applejack @shitgrifter It certainly calls into question the motives of people who use arguments they themselves don't believe.

The "but you're not being consistent from my reductive point of view" argument only works on Republicans, and it's why they always lose the culture war.

@Type_Other @shitgrifter No, it doesn't

Applying your opponents logic to a scenario where it goes completely retarded is proving it's completely retarded logic. Sane logic has to work in EVERY scenario

It's a completely normal and rational method. I think it even has a specific name for it, but it's greek garbage so I can't remember it

The original version of the meme was "christians need to follow all the hippy shit jesus said because they're christians", which is just true

@applejack @shitgrifter It's attempting to leverage people with charges of "inconsistency" because they don't understand their opponent's actual stances. The fact that they *aren't stating their own position* is what makes it suspect.

>"IQ doesn't measure anything meaningful."
"Okay, would you rather your child have an IQ of 70 or 130?"
>"Uhhhh..."
It's very revealing when someone doesn't buy their own bullshit. I'll start listening only after they put their true motive on the table.

@Type_Other @shitgrifter But that's actually an example

You should believe that IQ is completely meaningless, so stop caring if you're child is 70 or 130

No, I do in fact believe that IQ is legitimate, and I have nothing but contempt for your retarded beliefs

So yeah, this argument wouldn't work on me, but maybe if I use it on you you'll do what I want

@applejack @Type_Other @shitgrifter That's called a lie.
You don't believe in it, but in order to trick someone, you speak to them as if you believe it. You're holding them to a standard you don't hold yourself to.

@Dicer @shitgrifter @Type_Other He doesn't pretend to believe it, he's calling you inconsistent, which by it'self is valid

@applejack @Dicer @shitgrifter >If evolution happens then how are there monkeys? Checkmate, Darwin.
Misunderstanding someone's position isn't pointing out its inconsistency.

@Type_Other @Dicer @shitgrifter Ye, I agree, which is why I never disagreed

I've said multiple times that the point is retarded, but the meme is implying it's retarded purely because the libtard uses a completely valid rhetorical method

@applejack @Type_Other @Dicer there is nothing "valid" about setting up bad faith strawmen

@applejack @Dicer @shitgrifter The meme’s pointing out its in bad faith, because they’re trying to change your beliefs into theirs while hiding their own motives. It’s dodgy and manipulative.

Those who obfuscate their motives aren’t worth engaging with, because people don’t just hide things for no reason. They do it to protect themselves. It says “I can’t actually defend my own belief, so I’ll attack a strawman of yours instead.”
