this is how they get you, though. they'll make a show that is at least decent, so you'll be like "oh if there are black actors replacing white characters it's fine as long as the show is still good." hook, line, and sinker.

@beardalaxy i dunno i don't care as much if they're new characters. what really bothers me is when somebody is supposed to be ginger and then they just cast some random guy instead (COUGH thor COUGH)

like.. just having black people in your show isn't woke

though it's kind of funny at times because in the attempt to be more woke SR5 put me in a position where i had to murder a boat load of mexicans and black people and i think that concept might backfire slightly

@icedquinn most of the time i couldn't care less if there were black people in a tv show or cartoon or whatever the fuck else. black spiderman is fine because he's a completely different character, for instance. he's actually one of my favorites.

it's when there are either character replacements (as has happened in rings of power and witcher) or characters who are black in a setting that makes absolutely zero sense for them to be there (as has happened in rings of power and witcher). that's what bothers me. there's no respect for accuracy in world building or retelling stories, it's just soulless to fill a diversity quota and that's it.

it's not even just black people either, it's shit like ATLA from shyamalan too. none of these characters are accurate. as much as it pains me to say, the netflix version actually does a pretty damn good job with its casting.

i heard an interview once where they used to have problems putting minorities in scripts that were actively written for them because they didn't have a large enough actor pool that the funding department would approve.

so they do have scripts out there that are already stories that were supposed to have native americans and such in already

@beardalaxy i was mad about the de-gingering of triss but i found out she's Not Ginger in the books and CDPR just kinda made that up.

@icedquinn apparently her hair being chestnut rather than auburn is a translation error (because there's no polish word for auburn). the author himself has called her hair red before and in lady of the lake, yennefer calls her hair red. all of the fan translations and book-accurate recreations of triss i can find, she still has at least somewhat red hair.
