Cleared some clutter, now have 60% of my drive free. Didn’t even lose stuff I really cared about, just media I’ve already watched, games that I’ve played but felt like hanging onto in case I wanted to play them again, etc.

@dave i've gotta do that like yesterday. meant to today but forgot lol.

If you’re on windows, use SpaceSniffer for this. Not sure what the linux/mac equivalents would be, but it’s really helpful

@dave my plan is to compress a bunch of stuff i don't usually access, like some movies/tv shows/music and other things like ROMs.

Compressing your media won’t free up much space, since media is already compressed by design.

@dave @beardalaxy i've made a script that converts video (from mp4/h265) to vp9 using hw acceleration. Because more or less vp9 can use 50% of the original h264 bitrate to have the same quality. I set it to 40% though. And, it also converts audio to opus. half of the original if > 144 kbps, or 144kbps if higher. wowee. I will use av1 in the future as well when i get a puter that supports av1 encoding thru hw.
Now i need to make a script that converts images to jxl's

@MischievousTomato @dave i had someone ask me how many hours i had saved on my usb drive yesterday. i'm like... hours??? "yeah i won't discriminate" like nigga i just have roms on here lol.

Oh, I just realized what the confusion was. I was thinking he meant compress as in “zip”, not compress as in “re-render as a smaller file”.

@dave @beardalaxy the dude probably meant compression as that, but because it also can mean what i've done, I decided to mention it. Very important!

@dave @MischievousTomato i do mean compress as in zip. i know i won't get back a lot of space but it's SOMETHING lol. shaving 20% off of 100gb ain't nothin.

@MischievousTomato @dave hell if i know, i just tell winrar to pack up something and it does it
