@WolfJay @cyberanathema i'll never forget being completely alone on my birthday in like 2017 without anyone saying happy birthday to me, booting up my 3DS and going into my animal crossing house to see all of my favorite villagers there wishing me a happy birthday. i know that they're all just programmed to do that, but it felt really nice to have these "people" that i visited with and helped out on an almost daily basis show up at my "house" and surprise me.
the game was actually originally created as a way for college students away from home to feel like they still had a sort of family in the game, and for parents who rarely got to see their kids (because they work so much) to be able to interact with them in the game since you can share a town. it's very sweet.
@ehhh @cyberanathema @WolfJay i played new horizons every day since it had come out but a few months after the release, my nintendo account got hacked and the dude bought like $1,000 worth of fortnite crap. it all got charged back and my account got banned to protect it. it took me 3 months to get the account unbanned, and during that time new horizons got an update that for some reason required me to go online... and since i was banned, i couldn't.
then pso2 global came out pretty much right after that and i never played animal crossing again. i still have my save file but sold the game recently because it was just collecting dust. better that someone else got some joy out of it. maybe i'll revisit it one day. i think i'd rather start from scratch on like new leaf though instead. not a huge fan of all the crafting stuff in new horizons.
@ehhh @cyberanathema @WolfJay i only learned after the fact (because gmail stops giving you email notifications when you stop opening the app), but i guess nintendo had a huge data breach and people had their passwords stolen. i wouldn't have even known the account got hacked if it wasn't banned because i hadn't even checked my bank account for the past week.
I often go on for days without playing but every time I come back they're still nice to me and I love them all!! 😭
