After running some experiments with other instances, I can conclude that at least for now federation *is* going on - just one-sided
we can interact with remote instances - remote instances can't interact with us
in short, posted images are seen, it's just nobody can comment
they can fav and bookmark images too - it's just not displayed here in statistics
