Atheists believed that if religion was disposed of, then people would become rational. The opposite is true. If people abandon God, then they will become so irrational that even the most bizarre cults will seem rational by comparison.

@okuu the thing is that a lot of people seem to NEED a "cult," something that requires them to be beholden to some "deity" in order to even function. I have seen a lot of people leave religion only to exhibit the same type of brainwashed behavior they thought they stepped out of, only this time it's by the media and faggots on Twitter rather than a clergyman trying to make money or maintain power. These people don't leave religion, faggotry BECOMES their religion.
