@icare4america I'm on Win 10 for the moment but I flat out refuse to upgrade to 11 on my machine. If it weren't for EAC issues with Linux and sound blaster AE-5 driver compatibility issues I'd jump ship to Linux.

There's no need for skylake cpus being unable to support Windows 11 either it's just planned obsolescence from MS to force you to buy new overpriced hardware.

@mangeurdenuage @icare4america @ooignignoktoo ms requires new laptops to have a Webcam. If you have an old laptop, you can still install win11 on it, it just might not "work correctly" which means it will work just fine but not as ms intended.

@beardalaxy @mangeurdenuage @icare4america

Windows 11 has retarded requirements anyways and isn't worth using. The fact a perfectly capable i7-6700k cannot install it because of arbitrary TPM requirements is just bullshit and strong arming you into creating more e-waste instead of using older but still perfectly viable hardware.

@ooignignoktoo @icare4america @mangeurdenuage even then, you can install it still. Ms even has a guide on what to change in the registry to let you install it. You only "need" tpm for bitlocker or whatever

@lamp @ooignignoktoo @icare4america @mangeurdenuage android support is kinda nice, there have been a couple moments I would have liked to have that. Other than that though, nothing really yet worth switching for. DirectStorage will be interesting when it starts getting utilized more. It will be in win10 though too so who knows if it will actually be that different in 11.

And they're ending support for win10 soon. That's reason enough to switch, don't want to get wormed or anything.

@beardalaxy @ooignignoktoo @icare4america @mangeurdenuage i played with the android thing when i upgraded but then i had no use for it. and stuff like bluestacks are better anyway..

but it has some regressions that make it harder to use. i am happy to be back on 10

and 10 will be supported for a while. 2025... huh, not so far away now... but still a good 2.8 years

@lamp @ooignignoktoo @icare4america @mangeurdenuage dunno where you're getting the .8 from, I thought it was gonna be like March or something. I've never had luck with bluestacks tbh.

@lamp @beardalaxy @ooignignoktoo @icare4america
People said the same thing for win10 and then suddenly "muh gaymes".
The gaming community are such tools for corporate power it's insane how such community has negatively influenced the evolution of PC hardware/software.

@mangeurdenuage @icare4america @lamp @ooignignoktoo the industry is going to move forward using features that only new windows and new GPUs allow, it's just how it goes.

Honestly, win11, while I hate it's design, can easily be changed to look and feel like win10 for the most part. The settings program for 11 is a lot better imo. The vast majority of people don't care and actually want stuff like a Webcam on their laptop anyway, and those of us that don't most likely know how to get around it so it really doesn't matter that much. If you're still rocking hardware that doesn't "technically support windows 11" you still can upgrade, but damn I hope you get new parts soon.

@beardalaxy @mangeurdenuage @icare4america @ooignignoktoo well it hasn't moved forward yet.

once there's something worth upgrading for then upgrade.

until then, there is no advantage

@beardalaxy @mangeurdenuage @icare4america @lamp

I have hardware that can support Windows 11 but I refuse to call a software that is more locked down than it's predecessor an "upgrade"
@ooignignoktoo @beardalaxy @icare4america As often the tpm and other security functions are here to mitigate user illiteracy, such functions shouldn't be mandatory by corporate goons as it will damage the market that isn't corporate, see android for example, they jail people for, snooping and money, but also because it's easier to manage people in closed gardens than people being free.
