@The_Holocaust_Trumpeter @beardalaxy In the very distant past, /mu/ used to be a music pocket of the internet with very focused tastes in Rock, much like certain internet forums in the 2000s. It was a typical music board on a site like 4chan; much less developed in its "board culture", very simplistic but focused on the obscure. Then Poptimists infiltrated every music site, board and forum on the internet. In the early 2010s, almost everything associated with Rock and Metal was reformed into something accommodating of Indie, Pop and Hip Hop. Cancerous sites like Reddit and social media displaced music forums, resulting in a death of individual taste cultivation. Tripfaggotry and /mu/core marked this site's death knell with the board subjugated to anonymous tastemakers along with critics such as Scaruffi, Christgau and Fantano. /mu/core is hardly unique to /mu/ as it is a collection of albums praised across multiple sites and critics.
When zoomers got old enough to post, the previous ironies and jokes /mu/ had pushed into the mainstream like pleb/patrician and ironic Rap were taken seriously as real concepts. Satire no longer exists on /mu/. The new generation of /mu/tants can't make a distinction between good music and satire, and thus we have the board in its current state, where /mu/tants pretend to listen to obscure music they found on RYM, while also simultaneously listening to ironic Rap and Hip Hop. Newfags listen to the same albums the rest of the board does, like mindless NPCs.
