Is there a slang term equivalent to “tankie”, but that describes people that peddle revisionist history and do apologism for Nazis instead?
I just had some clown try to tell me, essentially, that Britain and France were the aggressors in WW2, and I really need a word that encompasses that level of retardation.
@dave while they weren't the violent aggressors, they certainly did a lot to fuck over germany that led to hitler taking the reigns in the first place. i mean, germany was only able to pay off their ww1 reparations in like 2011.
i'm not a huge history buff or anything but i'm pretty sure ww1 starting was partly due to germany wanting to take over french territory that would break a treaty or something. they asked england if they could take the territory from france and england just never responded to them so they went ahead and did it, but england was already there to flank them. so they did in fact get the message, they just decided that instead of telling germany "no" they'd kill them instead.
there is the possibility that ww1 and ww2 could have been prevented by the brits or at least mitigated. i know there are a lot of factors that go into it but *nobody* is truly innocent, as is often the case.
did hitler renounce all claims to alsace lorraine and attempt to conclude a total arms limitation treaty with france and britain? (yes) did france and britain refuse this arms limitation? (yes)
did hitler sign a non-aggression treaty with poland and work to resolve the polish territorial issues for years, including multiple attempts at new negotiations in the final days before the war started? (yes)
winston churchill and FDR both stated that if you see a man pointing a gun at you, you have the moral right to fire first. britain and poland were pointing their guns at germany, so they can't complain that germany fired first. (even though in reality the poles had been massacreing german ethnics to help provoke the conflict)
@didymus @beardalaxy You don’t get engagement because you are a fucking dipshit. The fact that you didn’t know Hitler talks about his vision of an expanded German empire in Mein Kampf, and you still feel qualified to have this argument, shows a complete lack of self-awareness.
@beardalaxy Correct, yeah. Hitler’s rise to power was fueled by the economic devastation that resulted from that treaty, and German resentment of it. However, that isn’t an assertion that I take issue with.
The issue is that he cited a book titled “The Forced War”, which tries to shift some of the blame for WW2 to Britain and France for not doing more to appease Hitler, and denies or downplays the evidence that clearly indicates Hitler intended to invade long before the events that the book argues were the ultimate causes of WW2.
