@dworkin you can't solve violence by banning violence just like you can't solve racism by banning racism.

@jeff @dworkin It is possible I misunderstand your post, but are you suggesting that banning assault weapons is futile? Because I would disagree with that. Very much.

@jeff @dworkin Weed never killed anyone, or at least weed-related deaths are statistically non-existent?

Christ, from what I’ve seen, weed makes people less likely to kill each other. Unlike alcohol. I offer my entire second marriage as proof. ;)

Maybe that’s why it’s being legalized everywhere now. I smell it all the time on the street now here in NYC and all I can think is “someone is probably happier” not “fucking hell, RUN!” as with gunshots.

All assault rifles should be illegal. Period. Suddenly, no more school shootings. And if we include handguns, which have only one purpose, I would be down for that, too, but even some of my friends insist on them.

It’s just me. Not here to convince you, just here to offer the PoV of someone in a city of 10 million.

@goodthinking @dworkin get outside your feelings for a second to assess this. the federal gov wants to take something legal that has legitimate uses and turn it into something illegal. when in the history of the usa did that ever go down well without massive harm being done to innocent normal people and corruption profiting at every turn?

@jeff @dworkin I hear you. It’s a principled thing you are arguing. All I’d offer is that the feelings you are asking me to step outside of involve a daughter who went through public school post-Columbine, post-Sandy Hook. If you haven’t experienced that empathy, I invite you to try.

Something legal is no excuse for mass shootings at schools, which are facilitated by the availability of weapons multiplied by immature assholes. It ain’t mental health causing this, it’s accessibility.

@goodthinking @dworkin you are right, the issue is ignorance around gun safety.
@goodthinking @dworkin you can have high access to guns without killing lots of people every day if your culture has a focus on rewarding discipline and respecting the sanctity of life. if you here see a gun and think "omg i could kill lots of people with it" you are a mentally deranged loon that belongs in a padded room. normal human beings dont have that reaction. the culture in the city is toxic and normal responsible people will not tolerate weak men like yourself when they add bubble wrap and kid gloves to everything. this is in fact a loosing issue, educated yourself on what it takes to be a responsible gun owner. you will be enlightened by what it takes because of ignorant gun phobes.

@jeff @dworkin Only if you make bullets $500 a pop will people think twice about killing each other if it’s within their reach. That is the American way. As for NYC’s “toxic” culture, you may need to visit to understand it is quite the opposite. Most of us love it here. It’s our beehive. We make, we do, we vend. Your like drain the honey in the form of tv and movies and — especially — the taxes paid on all of it. As for “weak men” like myself, ha. You come at the king you best not miss. :) Despite all this, I have enjoyed your comments and wish you well with whatever you’re doing this Sunday. Cheers!

@goodthinking @dworkin i've been to manhatten, it's a dump only rivaled by new jersey full of invasive micro managing busybody pricks. nyc has a different kind of strong, the kind who creeps on kids as a power play. a sick depraved place full of sadistic soulless power hungry cretins. you are a bottom tho, you seem to enjoy getting sodemized by the state. please keep your sick fetish on your island prison.

@jeff @dworkin Well, that’s my crazy for the day. Not even going to block you, you got me laughing. And fwiw, Brooklyn is not an island, but you knew that, right?

@goodthinking @dworkin well of course, but Manhattan is tho, keep in mind Brooklyn is just a bootleg Manhattan. i dont harbor any ill will towards you, i just pity you. if you ever want to go up to new hampshire to shoot at targets on trees in the middle of the nowhere that would be a fun thing i could ease you into. after all, education is the great equalizer just like firearms are.

@jeff @dworkin I thank you for this invitation. We live in different realities. Here things are cooperative and progressive. Mostly. There’s corruption, there’s graft. There’s senseless violence on occasion. No different than anywhere, really.

@goodthinking @dworkin you can only have such coexistence and tolerance by imposing cultural homogeneity. it's not about race, it's about class. now that biden is shotbombing the usa with people who we cannot integrate into the culture we need to be proactive and set the culture so that it does not dissolve into death and disorder.
dont say i didntr warn you, im no right winger here. im a center left moderate, all my life i've been in favor of harm reduction via education, this is the continuation of that principal.

@jeff @dworkin I come from educators (both my folks were public librarians and teachers — GI bill recipients). We would all agree that education, specifically public K-12, is a formative experience. That it’s being decimated in the name of power climbs by DeSantis et al is a disgrace imo.

@goodthinking @dworkin i dont agree, when you read the actual text of the "dont say gay" bill, you'll realize how much nothing it is and be worried that it got attention from the entities that it did in the way that it did. i worry that the propaganda is too strong rn and people dont understand the good that will come from it as well as the bad. none of those are discussed as it is shrouded in gaymongering from pedo creeps. it's nothing even close to the mainstream discourse.
The actual text of the bill is only seven pages, so there's little excuse to not read it. The bill is designed so that parents are given all knowledge about any mental health issues in school. In contrast, schools in places like California keep secret files which parents are not allowed to see.

The propaganda of "Don't Say Gay" comes directly from Planned Parenthood .. before Dobbs, they realized their business could go away, and have been transitioning into the largest distributor in sex hormones to underage kids:

Planned Parenthood was founded by Sanger, a eugenicists, who wanted to (and successfully did) reduce the number of black people reproducing.
@djsumdog @goodthinking @dworkin i have heard the dynamic propagated by planned parenthood referred to as the black american genocide.
@goodthinking @djsumdog @dworkin something like 60% of black americans were aborted in the last 50 years.

@jeff @goodthinking @djsumdog @dworkin I can't remember the exact statistic but it was like 2016 or something, there were more black babies aborted than born in new york.
