@coolboymew TotK Link (who must be in his 20s by now, even ignoring the 100 year slumber thing) is like 5.0, most male Hylians are easily a head taller than him, and pretty much all adult Hylian women as also somewhat taller. I suspect either Aonuma or some other major Zelda dev once visited the US, found that literally every single adult was way taller than him, and used that as inspiration in BotW and TotK.
That, or they want Link to mirror Mario.

@ChristiJunior @coolboymew the idea behind Link's design since at least Ocarina of time has always been to make him look kind of dorky. That's why they gave him the white tights in oot.
