Apparently https://oekakiskey.com is the hot new Misskey instance for Japanese Ero Artist accounts fleeing birdsite. This has been a public service announcement.

@Skoll3 One can hope. Though at least now, the concept if a Fediverse and a more nomadic identity already has one foot in the door.

@japananon is there are similar schism in Japanese mass media coverage as English speaking one where they talk about fediverse as if it is yet another centralised site of mastodon.social?

@Skoll3 Actually, not from what I've seen. It's still a niche subject so only people who regularly browse specialist tech news would know it exists at all, but the coverage of it has been very clear that "Mastodon" is software, that anybody can run it, and that there are multiple servers. In large part, I think we can thank Pawoo calling itself "Pawoo" and not "mastodon-dot-something" to make that concept stick more firmly.

Also I remember when our dear friend Hiroyuki Nishimura boldly declared that "Mastodon has no future", stating its diffuse nature would make it impossible to attract mainstream users, businesses, and advertising revenue... interesting that he listed positives as negatives, but whatever. I know the only reason he said that is because he knows he can't buy it, backdoor it, and sell everybody out to JGov and the corpos like he did with 2ch.

@japananon @Skoll3 isn't mastodon.xyz Japanese though? I thought that one was pretty popular too.

@Skoll3 @japananon ah yeah that's the one I'm thinking of. Or like mstdn.jp I think? Idk there are way too many instances just straight up called "mastodon" I can't keep track of all of them.

@Skoll3 @japananon I always kind of imagined that baraag was the western equivalent to pawoo.

@Skoll3 @beardalaxy mstdn jp may be numerically large, but I don't think they're as well known as Pawoo
