what's your favorite video game soundtrack?

i hate to be cliche, but mine's definitely chrono trigger. it just doesn't get any better than that. i'm not even a big fan of the game itself, i just think the soundtrack is absolutely masterful. the chrono games are my go-to work music soundtracks.

@beardalaxy nier or darktide for me, but serious sam the second encounter's final level has the best single level track

@rosey nier is always great. darktide is more or less what i'd expect from warhammer hahahaha! it's a little modern doom-y in some areas but stands on its own for sure, i like the kind of techno-grime sound it has often and it mixes it with those choir sounds. good stuff.

that serious sam one honestly sounds pretty standard to me, but i'm sure it has a lot more of a different atmosphere when you're actually playing the game.

@beardalaxy yeah context really matters for that track. there's another song playing for most of the level which up til that point is tight corridors and sunny skies, then towards the end you go through a door into a massive field, the sky clouds over and fireballs start raining down while you watch enemies spawn in a few hundred metres away on all sides
playing that level for the first time is one of the defining moments of my childhood lol
@beardalaxy This one might be pretty cliche, but Skyrim's soundtrack always stood out to me. The more atmospheric tracks in particular.

@kvit Jeremy soule is really good. Did you know he composed the soundtrack to morrowind without any direction? He was just told to make music for a fantasy game.

@beardalaxy I didn't know that, I knew that was a time when he made a lot of soundtracks, still really high quality. I love the direction on Skyim's OST though. Have you listened to the Northern Diaries? It's more work of his in a similar vein to Skyrim.
