Imagine being a new Nintendo fan due to the Switch, getting Mario Odyssey and loving it, and then buying the overpriced, low-effort Mario 3D All Stars collection because all the internet people and e-celebs insisted that Sunshine and especially Mario 64 are even better than Odyssey - holy shit, I'd be so fucking pissed about Lied to like that once I actually played those 2 games!

@ArdainianRight Odyssey is objectively a better sandbox game than 64 and Sunshine just for not outright KICKING YOU OUT OF THE WORLD every time you nab a notable collectible.

@ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight i do wish that mario 64 and sunshine would keep you in the world when you got a star. thankfully there are cheats that let you do that. unfortunately though the worlds still change when certain star requirements are met so you have to reset it every once in a while. stuff like the eel coming out in jolly roger bay, the tower being built in whomp's fortress, etc.

personally, i still haven't played odyssey and probably never will because it's TOO MUCH. i like my mario 64 because it's very self contained and it's a short game i can play through every now and then when i feel like it. even starting odyssey just feels daunting and i know i'd likely never go back to it again.

sunshine and 64 aren't sandbox games though anyway, nor do i want them to be. i like them just fine as having little contained worlds to go and play and then go back to the hub world.

@beardalaxy @ArdainianRight Odyssey doesn't *have* to be overly long, each world has one major, straightforward objective, and the number of required Moons for progression is very low. It's only when you commit to Exploring that you see that these worlds aren't just bigger, they're also far more dense than the worlds of 64 and Sunshine.

While I can see why hundred percenting Odyssey can lead to burnout, I think a 500 Moon run + the final challenge level is a phenomenal sweet spot. But you can beat the game with far fewer Moons than that, obviously.
