I feel like people don't commonly think of Bowser as a warlock, despite him being introduced as using black magic in the SMB manual. And he does something like this on pretty much every game he's in. You'd think he'd be able to use his magic to defeat a simple superhuman plumber... 
These glowing plants are obviously something; but I can't figure out what. I have tried all of Mario's moves on them but nothing happens. C'mon, Mario, just pretend you're dreaming, then you'll be able to pluck them from the ground like on SMB2.
