When everything is as bland as an Apple store or Tesla, nobody gives a shit anymore. A modern building built out of the same painted concrete and tons of glass is the modern day commieblock aesthetic except there was a mindset that "every man will get housing for himself" at one time. Nowadays there's either blandness around you, or something deliberately offensive like fat people or dudes with skin pattern conditions as models in Target signs or styling for modern vehicles.
Meanwhile mom and dad are either checked out or are fucking their kids over.
@Pawlicker @nordtrack i have vitiligo and every fucking time i see "representation" of it somewhere i cringe. i don't want "representation," i wanna' grill. i have heard young people say they wish they had vitiligo so that they could look different, and it's because it's pushed into everyone's faces as some positive thing. YOU DO NOT WISH YOU HAD AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER. you want attention, and you aren't given any of it because society is fucking vapid.

@nordtrack @Pawlicker i'm not sure honestly. i'm inclined to say that humans aren't inclined towards "evil" but towards selfishness. a lot of people who commit selfless acts do it for selfish reasons, whether that's to feel good about themselves or to appear good to others. however, being selfish even for those reasons isn't necessarily a bad thing, or an "evil" thing. it can be something that is just misguided. humans are naturally selfish for a reason... they need to be in a lot of aspects.
i do think there are evil people too, though. ones that just want to watch the world burn or ones that are exceedingly greedy and lust for power. i don't think that's a natural state for people, i think it is born from selfishness as well as other learned behavior from the culture they grow in. those evil people then in turn take advantage of others' selfishness.
does seem like generally speaking society throws everything off. human alone innawoods will strive towards an equilibrium, but add another mf'er and it spirals. thanks for entertaining my navel gazing
@nordtrack @Pawlicker i think it is very tied with self-preservation, and that's how evil people get you wrapped up in their mess. cult leaders, for instance. they know how humans work and they know how to take advantage of things like selfishness and selflessness, whether they be pure or under the guise of one another.
before the truth will set you free, it'll piss you off. nobody wants to be pissed off or piss off their peers because they can feel like that's all they have (which is another cult tactic).
i think it is good to have a bit of a safety net for people to fall back to. i know this comic is a bit cringe but it still illustrates a good point that doesn't even necessarily have to be about "political sides" but about any sort of cult/dogma. obviously, some people go too far and every prodigal son situation has its limits... but as far as your non-evil person goes i think being supportive in this way can help lend a lot of courage. i'm surprised i somehow gathered the courage to leave the church i grew up in because i had no support for that whatsoever... having some people to fall back on really would have helped me make the decision a lot earlier. especially other Christians.
i wonder how much hard truths pissing us off comes down to needing a solid confidence in something outside ourselves. (opposite of a dig at it)
support is a tricky balance too. my way to faith doesn't work for others. i know great people in what i view as cults that are better for it. murky waters but we're all pissing in our own kiddie pools on the front lawn imho. end of the day it comes down to what you do
