@rasterman holy fucking shit notch is a madman
I guess he has fuck you money lol, he can do whatever he wants

@beardalaxy He once tweeted "It's OK to be White" and there was a moderate amount of seething; but yes, that was after MS paid him enough to have "fuck you" money.

@rasterman @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum I don't like the new minecraft music. C418 was awesome. Hell I don't even like new minecraft much. Whenever I play I only go as far as like, whatever was there in 2014. I could play beta and not even notice I was playing it.

@beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum This video did a good job explaining how newer Minecraft could be seen as less fun than before, legitimately.

tl;dw
Easy means to circumvent difficulty means the game is only challenging if you make it so

As recently as the new Hermitcraft season, player Bdubs was saying how he's gonna avoid Mending enchantments because otherwise you never have a reason to mine any more; and Elytra because he wants to actually make roads and travel on horse.

I see it.

This is all Notch's fault for adding beds to the game. :pepe_fact:
@Turdicus @beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum Sounds about right. It's when I started hearing everyone suddenly talking about this great new game. A classmate was so into it that he gifted me a copy so I didn't miss out. The time frame fits. :pepe_sherlock:
@Rasterman @beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum decent video

But the real issue is infinite creeping updates. You can't do this forever and not expect to fuck things up. Honestly, Minecraft is freaking 13 years old. It's time to stop lmao. Of course the game is stale if you've been playing it for that long

@coolboymew @rasterman @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum yeah minecraft is more or less a live service game now, with bugs that have been there for like 5+ years sticking around. it doesn't help that they have to maintain two versions of the game. they really should just axe java development and let people mod bedrock easier. pure manpower and money won't make something better.

personally though i just think minecraft is pretty bloated. you can even see that change in the soundtrack. the game used to be a lot more simple than it is now, a decade after i first played it. i actually kind of feel this way about no man's sky too, i liked that initial version the most xD it's clear that the overwhelmingly popular opinion though is that more stuff is needed, because people go absolutely nuts with mods that add all sorts of crazy shit and they can't play the game without it... to the point that it has kept an older, less optimized version of the game alive lol.

people actually had the same issue with the elytra in tears of the kingdom, where it was like... why ride my horse anywhere at all if i can just build this little fan doo-dad and fly anywhere instead? and of course you're going to do that because it's faster and easier, but all the mood is completely sapped away from it.

i think something that would actually push me to do more in minecraft than the basic shit would be if there were more dedicated dungeons that required some of the new stuff to complete, with unique bosses at the end of them that would drop unique items. stuff you couldn't just spawn in with creative mode. have some crazier world generation. and then maybe some little quests/scripted events that happen if conditions line up, some rarer than others. something like a fusion of minecraft dungeons and infdev/beta i guess lol.

otherwise, all the crap they're adding is just bloat tbh. it's not really a game as much as it is a platform at a certain point, but games like fortnite and roblox have that market down much more and it leaves current minecraft in a weird spot.

@beardalaxy @coolboymew @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum Wouldn't be able to play on Linux if they remove Java, so I hope they don't.
@Rasterman @beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum because when you update it for 13 freaking years you're basically going to start bloating it heavily and destroying the previous balance in a bad way
@coolboymew @beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum It seems the balance was destroyed a long time ago. Like that one video said, everything added after a certain point has been a detour. Nothing is mandatory.

I'm glad they keep adding new types of blocks for the æsthetics. I wish they reworked the progression, however.

And on the topic of beds ruining the most exciting part of the game (surviving the night), I really dislike the phantoms. Now not only do they offer the chance to skip the night; but they encourage it! :whitecat_wtf: Found out the hard way coming back after years and playing on an anarchy server.
@beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @coolboymew I'm all for adding new monsters; but phantoms go against the original idea of Minecraft, possibly, more than any other feature in the game.

@rasterman @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @coolboymew oops sorry, you can no longer explore, mine, or craft, you must sleep or be forever tormented.

@beardalaxy @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @coolboymew The first moment I was attacked by them I thought they were annoying. Then that they were cool. Like, after so many nights with no sleep you go insane and attract monster...

...but some of the most memorable moments with the game I have come from long nights and lurking mobs. Like the time I tried to travel from base A to base B on a railroad on the ground (from the time when you couldn't make a minecart move by simply pressing forward) and a skeleton arrow disabled the cart. :pepe_giga: Nowadays it'd be unlikely I'd do that in the night, having so many incentives to sleep. :pepe_feelsweird:
yeah. minecraft feels boring at this stage, and I've tried to earnestly get into it. it feels too raw, too manual, rather lonely.
palworld is like minecraft but with more soul and no terraforming
I've dropped it, i own it thx to a friend, but got no real reason to play it

@coolboymew @rasterman @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @mischievoustomato i play it with my siblings every now and then, it's mainly a vehicle for all of us chatting and hanging out rather than us actually playing the game and working towards goals or anything like that.

which is fine, honestly. i like minecraft because i can just turn my brain off for a bit and chill, hollow out a fuckin mountain or something.

@beardalaxy @Rasterman @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @mischievoustomato I would have loved it as a young kid, but I can't play these "infinite no real goal" games. I need to have some actual freaking quest
i can if in the proper mindset, but gets tiring once it's too advanced

@mischievoustomato @rasterman @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @coolboymew "soul" is the last thing i expected anyone to say in reference to palworld lmao the devs even said they were pretty much just trend chasing and nobody had any idea what they were doing mechanically. a game that blatantly rips off pokemon designs is not a game i would classify as having "soul" regardless of how fun it is.

well, i feel it soulful. the animations, the pals working around, doing their stuff, it feels nice, soulful, cute, happy. that's what i meant
