The suicide rate has been increasing since about 2000. It's now at a rate above what we've seen since before WW2 - and statistics from before then are probably not comparable to the statistics we have today, simply due to issues in data collection.

The number of psychology M.S. degrees awarded per year - that is, the degree you need to become a therapist - has been similarly increasing over this time period.

Someone who is generous might conclude that the number of increased degrees is an active government response to this problem. However, people do not pursue an M.S. without having a non-financial desire to work in that field. The government cannot purposefully create more psychologists.

I propose the following hypothesis: the number of suicides in the US is increasing because there are more psychotherapists in the US.

1) Psychotherapists have a financial incentive to make people reliant on their services, and they have a degree in manipulating people's emotions. Thus, the psychotherapist actively worsens people's mental health in an effort to get them to spend money on them. They do this through cultural manipulation and by being insufferable pieces of shit in real life.

2) Despite the fact that economic factors are poor, historically people have emotional coping mechanisms for these things. In the US today, the coping mechanism for being miserable is to spend money on a psychotherapist - which only worsens the victim's economic situation.

3) Psychotherapists also often have personal incentives to make people miserable. It's a field where you have access to mentally vulnerable people - bad people have realized this, and often pick up the field as a chance to get more victims.

Thus, I propose the following solution to the suicide epidemic in the US: imprison all psychotherapists, and ensure that no more are created.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating doesn't even have to be active manipulation. Constantly thinking about your problems, learning to overshare at inappropriate times, and using labels rather than self-improvement will tend to drive people away and lead to isolation

@binkle @ceo_of_monoeye_dating my advice is to find a body of water and wish really hard to turn into a fish, then jump in you'll turn into a fish and start making friends, meet a hermit crab and a lady fish and fertilize trillions and trillions of eggs just like the 1964 don knots vehicle, The Incredible Mr. Limpet in which the main character, played by knots, was married to a 1960s schoolmarm and ended up trading her in for a female fish who's depicted as a very young teenager just then reaching the age of consent (he was like 50 at the time)

@cajax @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @binkle last time I got high I wouldn't shut up about this movie for some fucking reason lol

@cajax @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @binkle I had it as a kid, my parents said it was a classic or something but it's shit xD

@beardalaxy @binkle @ceo_of_monoeye_dating because those are the only kinds of parents who would think there was any value in this stupid movie at all

@cajax @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @binkle I watched a Scott Cramer video on it and there seems to be a weird phenomenon where all our parents watched it as kids and loved it for some reason, but they have no idea what it's about at all they just think of it as being a classic. I asked my parents what they thought it was after that video and they actually had no idea what the story was lol. But yes I'm white xD mostly.

@beardalaxy @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @binkle is this the video? yeah I had no idea anyone besides me knew about this I just was looking for something to zone out to and realized the movie is insane as I was watching and why hasn't anyone made exactly this video yet (turns out they did) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3fnrwBudTQ
@beardalaxy @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @binkle michio kaku mor like SCREECHIO COCK-OOOH am I right? ( I think this is an old n-word bit)
