alien romulus was pretty good but the fanservice was fucking CRINGE. mcu-tier nonsense. why do they think any of that was a good idea

@rosey as someone who hasn't seen any alien movie ever, i didn't notice it lol. i still thought the movie was just pretty average, though. pretty standard faire for a horror movie where everyone makes weird/stupid decisions in order to push the plot forward. it's not really scary, it doesn't have enough action to be cool, and the story was decent but not particularly compelling. there are so many movies i'd rather watch, even in the same genre.

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club yeah i agree with you on a lot of that, it was hard carried by the setting and if the characters made better decisions it wouldn't have worked

@rosey it's coming off the heels of me finishing the system shock remake too, which also takes place on a fucked up space station with a rogue AI. it's at least 5x more interesting xD

horror movies don't really do much for me though. they freaked me out when i was 14 watching them on my psp at midnight under the covers, but these days i mostly just find them dumb. even horror games are like that to a certain extent. i'm much more into the psychological horror stuff, especially the kind that's a little cozy in a weird way. though, action horror can still be really fun to watch, it's just not scary. if romulus had a lot more action in it, did a few more over the top scenes, i think i would have enjoyed it more. maybe if all the characters traveled with each other the whole time and just got picked off one by one in big fights or something, idk.

@rosey @beardalaxy to be fair, the characters are immature young adults
@beardalaxy @rosey i've heard this might be the case, if you ever watch the other alien movies and then rewatch romulus you'll see a lot of romulus is a mishmash of things done in the other movies, which makes me think the studio wanted this to be a way of introducing people with no experience of Alien into the Alien universe by copying the memorable moments of all the other films into one

@eidolon@clubcyberia.co @beardalaxy@gameliberty.club interesting... might be a good excuse to rewatch them, it's been a long time

@beardalaxy @andreas @rosey the ending is the same as the ending of Alien Ressurrection

@eidolon @rosey @andreas is it really? Lol then what is the point of the movie? Just Nostalgia bait? XD

@beardalaxy @rosey how many horror movies involve the horror monster having to outsmart smart and not weird victims? With the plot being pushed by a chess game of monsters and prey making logical gains and losses.

Modern "Horror" since the 1970s has been retards getting murked by superficially scary monsters.

It is why Aliens is more popular and critically received.

@andreas @rosey it's been a long time since i've seen it, but annihilation was really good.

my favorite horror movie is "as above, so below." it's loosely based on dante's inferno and has alchemy stuff in it. i'm pretty sure most of the deaths in that movie are due to the characters' individual hells coming to reap them, essentially. it's a lot more psychological but the death sequences are pretty unique. it also takes place in the paris catacombs so it actually forces the characters to be stuck inside with the horrors instead of them just not leaving for some bullshit reason. critics didn't like it much, but i thought it was really good. it's tomb raider meets dante's inferno pretty much.

i actually thought mama was pretty good too, not super scary but the story was well done iirc. the only death that happens is at the very end and it's super heart wrenching.
