Is it normal to like, feel anxious that something is watching you or following you, or is right around the corner hiding in the dark when you're alone? I brought up that I haven't felt like that lately to my family and they all looked at me like I was speaking ayy lmao language.

I don't get to the point of it being like delusional and it doesn't cripple me or anything, but most of the time if I'm at home and I'm the only one awake and I'm walking around by myself, I get this feeling that there's going to be some fucked up monster slithering around.

@beardalaxy the monsters are other men. And I am a man. Therefore I'm not scared as long as I don't see a big group of other men who look very bored.
@beardalaxy but yeah being scared like you described is basically how most women feel at night when walking alone. Cuz any 1 man could just kidnap them
@teto @beardalaxy i'm only a little afraid of the homeless black schizos who live around me

@teto i almost wonder if it happens because of seeing screamers as a kid lol. for an extremely long time, i would look in the comments of every single youtube video before watching it to make sure it wasn't a screamer vid. i only grew out of that in my early 20s.

so it's like i'm constantly anticipating a jumpscare if certain elements of the atmosphere line up just right. i'm not really in a horrifying situation but that's how all the screamer videos start off xD

@beardalaxy I hate jumpscares and horror movies too. Not related. Imagination kind of dies when you're actually exposed to night life. So I'm assuming you weren't really going out drinking with the pals often

@teto fuck no lol. i've never even been drunk because i fall asleep before i get to that point xD i'm not really a partier, my ideal party is mtn dew, pizza, and vidya lol.

i love horror media and i think jumpscares WHEN DONE RIGHT are fantastic. it's just that i think, as a kid, doing something as innocent as playing where's waldo alone in my friend's basement and seeing a terrifying image with a loud scream pop up did irreparable damage to me xD

@beardalaxy I do feel like men stay boys for longer if they never go outside at night with friends. I never did it much but it was important for my coming of age

@teto :peepoShrug: just really not my thing at all. i've done plenty of stupid stuff with my friends but going to the city and getting slammed is just not on the agenda ever lol.

@beardalaxy for some reasons only nerds think like that. I'm a nerd but I do love the ghetto life sometimes too
@beardalaxy It's exceedingly normal to feel that way. At night time, people tend to be on edge. For me, it was particularly bad when I first moved out alone.

That's why I have a boom stick next to my bed while sleeping. Interdimensional terrors, late night visit by Nintendo lawyers... The 12 gauge can handle them. Makes me feel safe, at the cost of permanent hearing damage afterward.

@beardalaxy I’ve felt that before while going to bed but not for a long time. It might’ve been other stressors from the day weighing heavily and activating that primal feeling of caution at night :loli_write:

I felt that way as a kid, but not anymore. Back when I lived in apartments and townhomes and such, I always head creeks and doors from all the other residents. Now that I finally own a house, that's not to connected to any other houses, I'm way more aware of any weird sounds I hear. I'm the only one here after all. I need to know what that was! .. oh it's just a screw driver that fell off a bookshelf.

It is a bit unnerving at times, but I am glad I live near an airport. There's always a background hum of some planes taking off or landing, even at night.

@beardalaxy I get this but instead of being watched I left the fridge open, the oven on, the door unlocked, the faucet running, and the dishwasher is leaking
