We need to burn the entire software industry to the ground and salt the earth at this point. It's impossible to go back and start over; the enshittification event horizon was crossed long ago.
@cowanon Remember when Chris Sawyer coded like 95% of his game in machine code so it would be highly optimized? Yeah, you don't get competence and dedication like that anymore.

@WhitestTemplar @cowanon that was also a relatively simple 2d game. you can't seriously expect a 3d, open world, fast-paced game like this to be written in machine code.

@beardalaxy @cowanon Maybe not, but I could see maybe the engine being written in it.

@WhitestTemplar @cowanon not just money, but time. and if the people aren't being paid to do it, money is time and they need to have other sources of income which means the development will be even slower. for a 3d game with advanced features, you'd need a massive team and even then it could take an excruciatingly long time.
