@TrueMasterCole green day is so fucking annoying holy shit the instagram algorithm will not stop showing me videos of them being mad at trump and elon musk and it is a different video every time

@beardalaxy @TrueMasterCole >green day
>doing anything in 2025
these people need to move on. George Carlin is dead, Morgan Spurlock is dead, Micheal Moore is irrelevant, Bush hasn't been in office in 16 years

@branman65 @TrueMasterCole they're like "I'm not a part of the Elon agenda!" and all the comments are saying "you can't be punk without being liberal!"
But what about Ian MacKaye, Johnny Rotten, and Johnny Ramone?
"they don't count, they were never real punks!"

@PurpCat @branman65 @TrueMasterCole personally I don't think green day ever was actually punk, they don't quite fit the description. They're a lot closer to rock, maybe pop/rock. Old blink is way more punk than green day ever was and that's saying something.

@beardalaxy @branman65 @TrueMasterCole i mean even in the "gold years" of punk there were a lot of bands that just evolved into post punk or weirder genres rapidly. The Clashes biggest hits are definitely not punk, and Joy Division's live sound/An Ideal For Living sound would get neutered and distilled hard by their famous producer who made a spaced out low-fi sound for them that everyone else was wanting to ripoff.

But even their early stuff was "radio hit material" I mean the fucking Beastie Boys were more "punk" early on before they pivoted to rap rock.

@PurpCat @branman65 @TrueMasterCole that's interesting, i didn't know beastie boys was punk originally. it makes sense though, the way their music evolved definitely still has those roots. listening to the original music of a lot of bands is always super interesting.
