@emma it's also why they are going way more hardcore with the "break our rules for online user engagement and we brick your entire console" thing

I hope somebody finds a jailbreak that disables the killswitch.
My switch is already permanently console banned from Nintendo online, but it's not bricked. My assumption is that we'll have to wait for mod chips. I don't think they're gonna do something as silly as forget to close the RCM back door this time. Probably safe to assume it will be an Efuse. They will probably try to make it harder to do emunand this time around as well. I wonder if they're still going to keep using the same horizon OS or make something new for a change.
I'm trying tpretty hard to give a shit about the Switch 2 though. The Switch games I already have look great on my TV when used with the M Classic. Game cards and vinyl were pretty much the only physical media I cared about investing in and now they've ruined that.

@mitchconner @emma @Hoss the game key card thing at least won't apply to first party games. it's only third parties that will be using it. apparently it's like $20-$25 for a cartridge because they've gotta be really fast and the way their architecture is, 64gb is the lowest storage capacity and the only one nintendo will be producing.

i honestly think that without the game key cards, all these third parties would just be doing code in a box or purely digital anyway. so at the very least, it IS better than a one-time-use code. still not ideal but i think nintendo is probably trying to make the most out of an awkward situation.

i pre-ordered a switch 2, i'm a mario kart fiend so i needed it lmao.

Every single game that I own is fully playable without an online download. The only thing I can think of hand that really changed was Diablo 3 came with a completely different icon for some reason. I guess it's my romanticized notion of some kid finding it in an attic some day and being able to examine it.
@beardalaxy @mitchconner @emma @Hoss the problem with console fags is that they worship physical games. Shit like digital game cards and game key cards are just combing the worst of physical and digital into one awful package which coomlectors because they need to pay $60 yo have a box on the shelf. Video games are the first fully digital medium the second people realize this and stop obsessing over the delivery method and realize this fact we can push for drm free games on open platforms.

They'll find nice workarounds. Remember how much of a win DRM free music was when Apple finally caved? Remember when they replaced it with streaming which had lower payouts AND "pulled from streaming?" Or how Steam was "good enough" for the normie masses.

That's not counting that new hardware can cost as much as a used Altima.

@KaiserKitty @beardalaxy @mitchconner @emma @Hoss The other problem is, on the open platform it's great for single player games. For MP games? You'd better hope it's from a dev who gives two shits and a fuck and is patching those pesky RCE bugs. Just look at Activision and how they could care less if playing a 10 year old game of theirs on the PC leaves you wide open to some serious RCE exploits (which don't happen on Xbox/PS, the worst that happens is some skid DDoSes you or uses a hard freeze exploit)

@sendpaws @KaiserKitty @mitchconner @emma @Hoss yeah I wanted to get back to playing blops 3 but apparently that's all over the place unless you use a specific mod, but only people with the mod can play each other and there's no matchmaking.
