@prettygood @aperture my dad was in Germany after the wall fell and he said it was so hard to actually get clean water there that most of the locals just drank alcohol instead. He didn't drink so it was like just juice all the time.
@beardalaxy @aperture I've heard that for many years drinking brewed or distilled drinks was much safer than trying to drink available water supplies, but I don't know if that's truthful, apocryphal, or just alcoholism cope.

@prettygood @beardalaxy @aperture iirc the romans used to drink super weak beer instead of water. they fermented it just enough to kill the bacteria.
